A Mother-Daughter Stop at Island Treasure Toys in Freeport, Maine

My daughter Fae and I were headed up to the cottage, and I decided we should make a little detour in Freeport, Maine to treat ourselves.

We had stopped in Freeport before and stumbled across the cutest little toy store, so I thought she would love to go back. I plugged Island Treasure Toys into the GPS, and off we went.

This time, though, it took us somewhere different. The store had moved to a much bigger location right on Main Street in Freeport!

The second Fae looked through the front windows, her eyes lit up with excitement. We walked upstairs and through the front door, and I was honestly floored. The new space is huge, bright, and so inviting. We couldn't wait to start exploring.

The first thing we spotted was the Slime Workshop. Kids and their slime! It was actually really cool. You can create your own slime and customize it with different colors, textures, and mix-ins.

While we were looking around, we met the owner, Emily. I told her we were heading up to the cottage and were looking for activities to keep the kids busy over the weekend. Emily has kids herself, and it was obvious right away that she really knows her stuff. She walked us through the store, giving us wonderful recommendations based on my kids' ages.

She even brought us downstairs to show us family games that would work well for both my 8-year-old and 6-year-old. It was so helpful to have someone who genuinely knew which games kids actually enjoy playing together.

The building used to be an old Abercrombie store, and they've transformed some of the little rooms into themed spaces. One of my favorites was the charming general store, and Fae absolutely loved Emily's Enchanted Closet, filled with the cutest dress-up clothes. Honestly...I kind of wanted to play dress-up too!

There was an entire wall of books, and since Fae can never resist a coloring book, we had to grab the Maine-themed one. It took every ounce of self-control not to leave with one of the adorable stuffed animals. The puffin was calling my name, but the kids already have more stuffed animals than they know what to do with!

Of course, we couldn't leave without picking something up for Gus, too. He and my husband were meeting us up at the cottage later that day, so we made sure to grab him a new LEGO set. I couldn't wait to see his face when we surprised him with it.

Since we love doing puzzles together as a family, we also picked out the perfect one to work on during our weekend at the cottage. They had science kits, craft kits, and hobby kits like the popular Woobles Learn to Crochet kits, making it easy to find something for every age and interest.

One feature I thought was absolutely brilliant was their Birthday Wish Buckets. Kids can fill a bucket with all the toys they'd love for their birthday, and when friends and family come shopping, they can simply look through the bucket and choose a gift. Such a simple, thoughtful idea!

More than anything, you can tell how much Emily loves what she does. Her passion for the store shines through in every corner, and it's easy to see why Island Treasure Toys has become such a beloved part of the community.
